VIKANDER Profile: Stefan Reljin

Since joining VIKAND in 2021, Stefan Reljin has had roles both at sea and on land. 

Representative of an effective transition from onboard to shoreside employment, Stefan is one of VIKAND’s trusted Medical Case Managers. He views his previous onboard experience as a VIKAND Senior Nurse Officer as a solid foundation in understanding the details involved with case management and how to effectively support VIKAND’s clients, their guests and crew members now that he is ashore. 

As lead Case Manager for Hurtigruten Expeditions, Stefan regularly communicates with its corporate management team to ensure that the service VIKAND offers continues to be tailored precisely to their requirements. Moreover, Stefan’s case management encompasses diverse destinations and crew needs, expanding his understanding of the intricacies of healthcare protocols in various countries. 

On cruise ships, it is routine for guests and crew to be medically disembarked in foreign ports. Stefan’s role ensures they do not feel isolated during what can be a challenging and stressful time. He monitors and facilitates their care and treatments, ensuring protocols are appropriate and safe. When the time comes, he also assists them and their travel companions in returning home. 

Recently, Stefan dealt with an unusual scenario. “One Saturday night, I received a call regarding a crew member hospitalized in a neighboring country and requiring assistance to return home. Without hesitation, I decided to personally care for him. The following morning, I flew out to meet him and to guide his safe return home so he could start the road to recovery,” he reveals. “This experience enriched my understanding and granted me valuable insights into the intricate details of how VIKAND’s Case Management Department truly functions. We bridge the gap between the onboard medical team and care continued at home.” 

Most often, Stefan’s role is handled remotely. This requires a fastidious approach to building trust and coordinating administration, including timely assistance, maintaining constant communication, and ensuring thorough follow-ups. “Earning clients’, guests’ and crew’s trust is a sense of achievement and satisfaction for me.” 

VIKAND’s case management team handles a substantial and intricate workload including diverse medical conditions, meeting client expectations, and complex logistics. Team support of one another is fostered by exchanging ideas to ensure the best possible outcomes. “It genuinely feels like we are family,” says Stefan.

During his time off, Stefan enjoys cooking, listening to music, socializing with friends, and going on nice long walks with his 3-year-old French Bulldog, Rock.
